The HRB Diabetes Collaborative Clinical Trial Network is delighted to welcome Seble Mengistu, an MSc Applied Clinical Data Analytics student at the University of Galway, who has joined the Network as a Summer Research Fellow.
During her fellowship, Seble is supporting clinical data analyses under the supervision of Dr. Christine Newman, Dr. Alberto Alvarez-Iglesias, and Professor Fidelma Dunne. The fellowship provides an opportunity to apply advanced data analytics skills within an active clinical research environment while contributing to diabetes research.
Reflecting on her experience, Seble said:
“The fellowship has provided me with invaluable hands-on experience in data management and clinical data analysis, while strengthening my presentation, communication, and teamwork skills. It has also given me the opportunity to apply the knowledge and analytical skills I have gained through my Master’s programme in a real-world research setting.”

Seble is currently completing her MSc in Applied Clinical Data Analytics at the University of Galway. Her thesis, entitled “Association of Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Fats with Cardiovascular Mortality: A Secondary Analysis of NHANES 1999–2018 Data,” is supervised by Dr. Finn Krewer.
