Diabetes Ireland Bursary Award Open for Applications

DI logoDiabetes Ireland, together with the HRB Diabetes Collaborative Clinical Trial Network and Galway University Foundation, and in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Health Service Executive, is pleased to announce the launch of a new Diabetes Research Bursary Award for medical students interested in gaining research experience in diabetes.

This bursary is designed to promote early engagement in research and support the development of future clinician-scientists dedicated to improving outcomes for people living with diabetes.

Award Details

  • Number of awards: 2 bursaries
  • Value: €6,000 per student
  • Duration: 9 months (including 6 months of active data collection)
  • Total funding available: €12,000
  • Research area: Diabetes research using the DIAMOND database (e.g., clinical research, translational research, public health, health economics, or data analytics)

The bursary will support undergraduate medical students at the University of Galway to undertake a supervised diabetes research project using the DIAMOND system, a fully integrated patient and clinical care database at University Hospital Galway.

Students will contribute to the collection, extraction, and cleaning of clinical and socioeconomic data from the DIAMOND database to support future research and health economic modelling in diabetes.
