Dr Christine Newman presented reassuring results from the first longitudinal follow-up of children exposed to metformin in utero in the EMERGE trial at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting in Milan, Italy.
The EMERGE trial investigated whether introducing metformin at the diagnosis of gestational diabetes, alongside usual care, could improve outcomes for mothers and babies. The follow-up builds on this research by examining the health of mothers and children in the years after birth, contributing valuable evidence on the longer-term effects of metformin exposure during pregnancy.
