Diarmuid Smith qualified from UCD School of Medicine in 1994. Completed the Specialist Registrar Training Programme in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2004. Awarded an MD thesis from UCD in 2003 after completing diabetes research in Kings College London. Appointed Consultant Endocrinologist in Beaumont Hospital in 2005. Appointed HSE National Clinical Lead for Diabetes between 2011 to 2013 and was Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for the Irish Endocrine Society between 2015 to 2019.
